Privacy notice

This notice describes how the current version of StepWise handles information. StepWise is an early product, and this notice describes only what the software does today.

What teachers store

Teachers create an account with an email address, a password, and a display name. Teachers create routines that contain a routine name, description, category, notes, ordered steps, written directions, optional spoken-direction text, and any images they upload. This content is stored in the teacher’s own account.

Students do not need accounts

Students do not sign in, create accounts, or enter passwords. A teacher launches a routine and hands the device to the student. An optional display name entered on the launch screen is used only for the current session and is not saved.

Student activity is not stored

StepWise does not store student performance or activity. Completed steps, help requests, time spent, session length, and routine completions are not recorded or reported. There are no scores, rankings, streaks, or behavior records.

Information teachers should not enter

Do not enter IEP content, disability categories, diagnoses, medical information, behavior records, or other sensitive student information into routine names, descriptions, notes, steps, or directions. StepWise is not intended to hold student records of any kind.

Photographs used in routines

Routine photographs should show materials, locations, and actions rather than students. Do not upload photographs that identify a student unless your school or district has the appropriate authorization in place for that use.

How routine content is protected

Teacher accounts, routines, steps, preferences, and uploaded images are readable and editable only by the teacher who owns them. Access rules are enforced by the database and file storage, not only by the interface. Uploaded images are stored in private storage and are shown through short-lived links rather than permanent public URLs.

Deleting content

Teachers can archive a routine to take it out of everyday use, or delete it permanently after a confirmation step. Deleting a routine also deletes its steps and uploaded images.

Compliance

StepWise does not claim FERPA, COPPA, HIPAA, or district compliance. No independent review or certification has been completed. Schools should complete their own privacy review before using StepWise with students.
